Monday Night soccer betting tips – Manchester City v Burnley

The first Monday Night soccer match in the English Premier League since the restart sees Manchester City play host to visitors Burnley. Read our Monday night soccer betting tips below.

The home side will be lifted by having beaten Arsenal last Wednedsay and with champions-elect Liverpool dropping points in Sunday’s Merseyside derby then the Blues will be itching to close the gap with a win and keep their slender hopes of catching the runaway Reds alive.

Visitors Burnley have all but secured Premier League safety, while a place in the Europa League next season is still possible although they’ll need to go on a strong run of form if they are to secure the fifth spot.

CITY HOME FORM KEY TO VICTORY

The form of the home side is hard to fault with Manchester City failing to take all three points at the Etihad on only four occasions during the season, winning 16 and drawing 2 of their 20 matches at home.

Over the stretch they’ve found the back of the net 50 times, conceding only 13 which includes clean sheets in three of their last six matches. 14 of those 50 goals have come in their last six home games. City have also scored at least twice in 15 of their last 20 home matches.

Burnley meanwhile have largely struggled away from Turf Moor, winning only 6 of their 20 away matches with a further five draws. The visitors have scored 24 goals over the stretch, conceding 33 times and they’ve scored only five goals away from home in their past six games. Burnley have also lost at least two goals in 10 of their last 20 matches away from home and have struggled to score on the road with 12 of their last 20 matches yielding only one or no goals from the visitors.

SHARP CITY HAVE HISTORY ON THEIR SIDE

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has done wonders with his side who were arguably the most in-form team in the weeks leading up to the shutdown; but they face a Manchester City side who has won eight of the last nine encounters beween the two sides with the last game resulting in City demolishing Burnley at Turf Moore by a 4-1 scoreline.

City will also have the benefit of having played Arsenal recently, while Burnley play their first game since the restart which could be telling in terms of fitness and sharpness between the two sides.

BURNLEY KEY MEN STRUGGLING FOR FITNESS

Aymeric Laporte continued his rehabilitation from injury by playing the bulk of the match against Arsenal last Wednesday and the City defender should take another step on the road to recovery. His importance to the City backline can’t be underplayed and the home side look much stronger at the back with his return to the side.

Prior to his injury he had played only eight games but City had shut out the opposition in six of those. In his absence however the City backline kept only five clean-sheets in 21 games without their star defender.

Burnley meanwhile will be hit by the absence of key strikers Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes, both of whom are struggling with injuries and the pair account for half of Burnley’s 34 goals scored this season. With both missing out on Monday alongside winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson then goals might be hard to come by for the visitors.

It is probable then that the visitor may look to frustrate a City attack that is scoring for fun at home and look to defend deep and in numbers in an attempt to contain the home side’s potent scoring ability across the park.

MATCH VERDICT

Manchester City are understandably the big favorite to prevail in the match and it is hard to see Burnley taking anything from the match as they make their return to action. The home side already have a match under their belt following the restart and they should put that fitness and sharpness advantage to good use.

The home side’s record at the Etihad is formidable while they enjoy plenty of success over the visiting side; their record is likely to be extended here and City should win quite comfortably despite the away side’s likely attempt to frustrate them by defending in numbers. Our Monday night soccer betting tips expect a big win from the home side and a tough night for the visitors.
