See matchup odds: St. Louis Cardinals at Los Angeles Dodgers, Wed 10/6
We got a real treat for the AL wild-card game with the Red Sox taking on the Yankees, and the NL one should be just as exciting.
The Dodgers won 106 games, but find themselves in this spot anyway thanks to the unexpected brilliance of the Giants. Max Scherzer takes the mound for Los Angeles while Adam Wainwright will start for St. Louis, and this one has pitchers’ duel written all over it. Scherzer has been lights out since getting traded from the Nationals, with a 1.98 ERA in 11 starts with his new team.
He just faced this same Cardinals lineup about a month ago and gave up zero earned runs across eight innings while striking out 13. In six of his 11 starts with the Dodgers he’s given up zero earned runs, so there’s a very good chance he blanks St. Louis.
Wainwright is coming off a fantastic season as well, as the 40-year-old showed no signs of decline while putting up a 3.05 ERA. The Dodgers’ lineup has taken a hit with the injury to Max Muncy, and the Cardinals’ offense quieted down over the last week of the season.
This one should be very low-scoring.
