World-leading sportsbook William Hill is the first to launch its mobile sports betting app in the state of Iowa for use on iPhones, iPads and Android devices.
Android users can download the app directly from the William Hill U.S. website, while the iOS app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. The app features live InPlay wagering during games.
Joe Asher, Chief Executive Officer of William Hill US said:
“We know Iowa sports fans are looking for both an in-person sports betting experience as well as the convenience of betting on their mobile devices. The William Hill Iowa app gives our customers the ability to access our full sports betting menu from anywhere in the state. Our team has worked tirelessly over the last few months to get the platform up and running and we’re proud to be the first sports betting company to do so.”
Bettors Must Register in Person to Open Mobile Account
The Iowa legislature passed a sports betting bill in late April which was signed into law by Governor Kim Reynolds in mid-May. On August 15, Iowa became the 11th state to allow sportsbooks to open for legal sports wagering, with seven of 18 licensed sportsbooks opening across the state.
William Hill held a grand opening celebration for its retail sportsbook at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, located just east of the state capital in Des Moines, but not everyone in the crowd was on hand just to place a sports bet.
Moments after the sportsbook opened its doors, a line of potential online bettors formed to set up their mobile sports betting accounts. Per Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission regulations, bettors in the Hawkeye state must register their mobile sports wagering accounts in person at a brick-and-mortar sportsbook until January 2021. After that date, bettors can register their accounts online.
William Hill operates four retail sportsbooks in Iowa at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, Lakeside Hotel Casino in Osceola, Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf and Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo.
Founded in the U.K. in 1934, William Hill established William Hill US in 2012, focusing on retail and mobile operations in Nevada. As more states move to legalize sports betting, William Hill is expanding its brand across the U.S. Iowa is the ninth state to open a William Hill sportsbook.
