Most common deposit options:
- Credit/Debit Cards
- ACH/Bankwire Transfer

Best bonuses, promos, and rewards
The best bonuses and promos at online NJ sportsbooks will vary depending on the sports calendar. For example, shortly before the 2021 NFL Draft, online sportsbooks were offering 20-1 odds for a QB or for Trevor Lawrence to be drafted first. That means a $5 bet could’ve won $100.
But, those types of promos are seasonal. There are still great bonuses you can gain no matter what time of the year like the ones listed below.
- BetRivers $250 Deposit Match Bonus: For this bonus all, you will have to do is create an account and make a deposit. By using the promo code at the time of the deposit, BetRivers will match you 100% up to $250 in bonus funds. This is a great bonus for those new to sports betting as it only requires a 1X playthrough before you can cash out your winnings.
- DraftKings $1,000 Deposit Bonus: This is the best promotion for high rollers who want a boost to their bankroll. First deposits will be matched at 20% for up to $1000 in bonus funds that can then be used to bet on the site. It requires a large initial deposit to get the full benefit of the bonus. But, if you know you’re going to bet a lot, it could be worth that initial investment.
There are other great bonuses at online sportsbooks in NJ, but these three are a snapshot of what to expect. Sports bettors in New Jersey aren’t limited to joining only one sportsbook, which means they can enjoy as many of these bonuses as they’d like.

Betting on in-state college teams in New Jersey
This is the one area in which New Jersey is lacking. Currently, sports bettors in NJ cannot bet in college sports teams that are based in the state. This means betting on teams such as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights or Seton Hall Pirates is not available at sportsbooks within the Garden State. Instead, bettors will have to go to another state like Pennsylvania to wager on those teams.

New Jersey sports betting timeline
How did legal sports betting in New Jersey become a reality? Well, after a long battle, it came down to the opinion of nine Supreme Court judges.
2012: The Birth of New Jersey Sports Betting
New Jersey passed its own sports betting bill in 2012, challenging the federal government and sports leagues to oppose it. Unsurprisingly, the sports leagues challenged the bill, and that set in motion and six-year-long court battle.

2013-2017: The Downswing Years
After several lost battles (and many millions of dollars in legal fees) New Jersey appealed to the US Supreme Court. Gov. Christie maintained that New Jersey sports betting was a matter for local lawmakers and not federal authorities.
Despite invoking the state’s Tenth Amendment rights, two major court cases sided with the sports leagues and PASPA. Eventually, in 2017, the Supreme Court agreed to review Christie’s appeal
2018: New Jersey Sportsbooks Come to Life
In 2018, Supreme Court judges began weighing up the New Jersey vs. PASPA case in its entirety. Taking into account the Tenth Amendment and other mitigating factors, the federal authority eventually ruled that PASPA was unconstitutional.
In delivering the verdict, lawmakers not only opened the door to legal sportsbooks in New Jersey by sports betting across the US as a whole. Indeed, for many, the US betting renaissance is down to the efforts of Christie and Garden State legislators.
After securing victory on May 14, 2018, New Jersey sportsbooks were free to go live. On June 11, 2018, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed an updated sports betting bill into law. He personally placed the first-ever legal sports bet in New Jersey at the Monmouth Park racetrack on June 14.
The future of New Jersey sports betting
New Jersey has officially become the sports betting capital of the U.S., consistently taking in more sports betting handle than Nevada. But, the future’s still bright for the Garden State.
Right now, there is a bill in the state legislature that would legitimize betting on non-sporting events such as the Oscars, Grammy’s, and even Nathan’s Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest to name a few. Regulators have given special permission to offer these bets in the past, but lawmakers have a chance to keep them year-round.
There are also still more online sportsbooks that are aiming to launch in New Jersey. PlayUp and FansUnite are just a couple of the online bookmakers looking to call NJ home next.
