Nevada Sports Betting Handle Up, Revenue Down Big in August

The final month of summer produced a mixed bag of results for Nevada sportsbooks and mobile sports betting apps, with a slight month-over-month increase in wagering handle offset by a large drop in revenue.

In total, sportsbooks in the Silver State notched $431,597,004 in total handle during the eighth month of the year, representing a 5.7% increase from July’s sum of $408,261,713. The mobile handle for Nevada’s sportsbooks wound up at $316,762,590, which was up 18.1% from the month before ($268,174,757) and 8.0% year-over-year ($293,264,706).

On the revenue side of things, Nevada sportsbooks posted $18,101,000 in August, which was down 28.3% from July’s total of $25,256,000 and up 12.6% from the year prior ($16,069,000). In total, Nevada’s legal online sportsbooks handle represented 73.4% of the state’s total in August. The total gaming win in August wrapped up at $1,209,316,000.

On an individual sport basis, baseball was the No. 1 activity for Nevada bettors, with a total handle of $272,073,864, followed by football ($52,144,330), basketball ($16,926,829) and hockey ($39,277).

Where Nevada’s August Report Ranks 

So far, sportsbooks across America have chipped in a total handle of $4,165,855,039, with national trendsetter New York leading the way, at $1,118,163,959. Just south of the Empire State, New Jersey is currently the No. 2 state by August handle, at $725,849,450.

In Nevada, sportsbooks have taken in $4,851,369,554 of total handle through eight months of the calendar year, averaging out to $606,421,194 per month.

With the NFL regular season — and NFL betting promos — in full swing and the Las Vegas Raiders hosting games at Allegiant Stadium just off the Strip, it seems like Nevada sports betting’s best days lay ahead in the final quarter of the year.
