Good News For Ohio: Bonuses To Wager On NFL New Year’s Day Action

Free bets on the NFL in Ohio will be possible on Sunday, and Ohioans can use them to bet on the NFL's best team against the spread: the Cincinnati Bengals.

Soon, Ohio residents will have the opportunity to wager on sports, and, as expected, multiple sportsbooks will grant them access to bonuses for use on NFL action.

It’s shaping up to be a massive NFL weekend in Ohio. And no, not just because the Cincinnati Bengals remain alive in the race for the AFC’s top seed.

The penultimate weekend of this NFL season coincides with the launch of legal sports betting in the Buckeye State. Unsurprisingly, the debut promises to be among the largest single-day expansions of sports wagering in the U.S. since the Supreme Court legislated a nationwide ban in 2018. With a population of nearly 12 million, Ohio will become the fourth-largest state with statewide legal sports betting. That, of course, is a big reason why experts believe it could ultimately mature into a $3.5 billion market.

Ohioans can appreciate the launch’s timing given that it’s also the next-to-last weekend of the NFL regular season. The Cleveland Browns play at Washington on Sunday, while the Bengals host the Buffalo Bills on Monday night in a game with enormous playoff implications.

Mobile, Retail Set For Launch

Ohio’s launch will be a seismic moment in the short history of the U.S. sports betting industry. Sportsbooks are gearing up and believe they’re ready for the long-awaited launch.

MGM Resorts announced a customer at its Northfield Park casino near Cleveland will be chosen to place a first sports wager at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. However, since Ohio’s universal launch will involve mobile and retail sports betting, those aged 21 or over only need to be physically present in the Buckeye State to get in on the action.

BetMGM is extending a promotion to offer new Ohio customers $200 in bonuses. Unlike most promos, there’s no deposit required. The promotion is available to those who complete account registration through noon on Sunday. The bonuses will be broken down into four wagers of $50 each, which cannot be subdivided, cannot be redeemed for cash, and expire within seven days of being credited to a user’s account.

Caesars Sportsbook is also among those getting in on the action. It’s offering new users in Ohio a $100 bet credit once they register and deposit at least $20. The promotion is activated with the Ohio promo code CZR1H. The $100 bet credit is a one-time use and cannot be divided or redeemed for cash. It must be used within seven days of being credited to a user’s account. The deadline for registration is Dec. 31, according to the terms and conditions at Caesars.

Bonuses On NFL In Ohio? Bet On The Bengals, The Spread’s Toughest Opponent

Both promos can be used to wager on NFL games taking place this weekend. The Cleveland Browns are a 2-point underdog at Washington, according to BetMGM. Cleveland has lost two of its last three overall. Against the spread, the Browns are 7-8. The Commanders have failed to cover in three straight, losing two of those games and tying one.

Meanwhile, the Bengals have much more at stake. While Cincinnati has clinched a playoff berth, it’s a game behind Buffalo & Kansas City for the top seed. They’ll likely need to win their final two games to have any chance at the No. 1 seed. That effort begins by tackling Buffalo on Monday night.

The Bills are 1.5-point road favorites, according to BetMGM, heading to Cincinnati riding a six-game winning streak. Still, Buffalo has covered only three times in that span and is 7-7-1 against the spread on the season overall. On the other sideline, Cincinnati is the NFL’s best team against the spread with a 12-3 cover mark, entering Monday night winners of seven straight games outright and against the spread.
