We come to the end of the road for the 2019/20 Europa League with the final being played on Friday evening in Germany between Spanish side Sevilla and Italian giants Inter Milan. But who will come out on top? Check out our Europa League betting tips for our thoughts.
It’s taken a while due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but the last two teams standing in the 2019/20 Europa League will go head-to-head on Friday evening at the RheinEnergieStadion in Germany in the final of the competition.
The final will see Spanish side Sevilla lock horns with Italian giants Inter Milan in what promises to be a thrilling encounter played to a conclusion and the Italians go into the game as favorites to take top honors.
EUROPA LEAGUE SPECIALISTS SEVILLA NO PUSHOVER
The Spaniards have a terrific record in this contest and Friday’s final will see Sevilla bid to win the tournament again having won three of the last six Europa League finals and five in 14 so Julen Lopetegui’s side clearly have the pedigree.
They also come into this match in solid form, unbeaten in their last 20 matches since February and they have knocked out the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United in the semi-final to reach this last stage.
That win came despite riding their luck somewhat against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side who peppered the Spaniards’ goal without managing more than a single strike in their 20 attempts on goal. Sevilla in comparison only mustered 9 attempts, scoring twice and their defence despite only conceding one goal didn’t look as solid as in previous rounds.
INTER SCORING FOR FUN
For Italian giants Inter Milan they were expected to face a tough semi-final against Ukranian side Shakthar Donetsk although the match proved to be far removed from that expectation with Inter cruising to a 5-0 victory.
The match was marked by the much-pilloried Romelu Lukaku scoring in the competition for the tenth successive game and the Italian side have found the net nine times in their last three matches. At the other end of the pitch their defence has been similarly efficient with only one goal lost in their last three matches and they’ll face a Sevilla side that doesn’t really boast much in the way of explosive firepower.
Sevilla’s semi-final against Manchester United saw their normally reliable defence put under the cosh; but they did well to weather the storm and limit the Red Devils before snatching the win and they may again find themselves in for a busy night against Inter’s forward line which will likely again be led by the impressive Lukaku who has taken his game to a new height since joining the side from Manchester United where he struggled.
CONTE’S MEN TO SCORE AGAIN
Inter Milan have scored two or more goals in all but two of their last 16 matches and they may well be capable of notching up a few more if the Sevilla back-line turns in a performance similar to their semi-final where they have goalkeeper Yassine Bounou to thank for a strong performance in keeping Manchester United at Bay.
Sevilla meanwhile have failed to find the net in two of their last six matches, most recently against Romanian side CFR Cluj although they have scored two or more in 15 of their last 20 matches at home.
Inter have conceded at least twice in ten of their last 20 away games although the Europa League final will be on neutral ground. The statistics do however suggest that both teams are likely to find the net during the Final.
EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL BETTING TIPS: SEVILLA V INTER MILAN
Both teams look closely matched and this Europa League Final is expected to yield goals for both sides.
While Sevilla’s record in the competition is noteworthy, they might struggle against Inter’s potent strike-force if their defensive line has another off-night as it did in the semi-final. Inter have more than just Lukaku leading the line and fellow hitman Lautaro Martinez helped himself to a brace in the semi-final.
Both will present a big problem for Julen Lopetegui’s side and Inter can breach the Spaniards’ backline to run out winners of this match and win the tournament for the first time since 1997/98 when know by its’ former name of the UEFA Cup.
