SuperBook Heading to Colorado for Legal Sports Betting

The famed Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook is ready to launch in Colorado when the state launches sports betting on May 1. Rumors of the SuperBook expanding into other markets are more than a year old, with many sources indicating that it was coming to the state of New Jersey.

That ultimately did not happen, but the SuperBook has submitted an application in Colorado, and they could gain their license as early as this week.

The SuperBook is reportedly partnering with The Lodge Casino in Black Hawk, Colo., to provide their service. This will be the first time that the SuperBook has operated outside of the state of Nevada or the city of Las Vegas.

The SuperBook is also creating a partnership with Jacobs Entertainment, and this partnership could allow the sportsbook to venture into other parts of the country.

The SuperBook has submitted its application to obtain a sports betting license, and the Colorado Division of Gaming is set to review this application later this week. Betfred and BetAmerica are also set to receive a sports betting license this week, and the state has seen plenty of big names in the industry enter the market.

SuperContest Venue

Westgate Las Vegas’ SuperBook is famous for offering the SuperContest. The SuperContest is the largest NFL betting contest that last year saw the grand prize awarded at close to $1.5 million.

The entry fee for the SuperContest was $1,500. The Colorado Division of Gaming will have to approve this portion of the application as well, but it will likely be the biggest asset that the SuperBook brings to the state.

The sports betting industry in Colorado is going to look a little different than it does in most states throughout the country. There are three towns in the Rocky Mountains that are home to the 33 casinos in the state, and these are the locations where all retail sports betting must take place.

Cripple Creek, Central City, and Black Hawk are these three locations, and Black Hawk is expected to be the sports betting hub when the new industry launches.

With this in mind, the state of Colorado has also approved mobile or online sports wagering throughout the state. The SuperBook saw 65 percent of their action from mobile wagering in Las Vegas, but that number is expected to grow in Colorado. Experts believe that almost 95 percent of all action will come via mobile betting.

The SuperBook is working on making improvements to their mobile betting app with this in mind to be competitive in this market. Sports betting apps in Las Vegas are not as well designed as other mobile sports betting apps from across the country.

With over 20 states currently offering sports betting throughout the United States, Colorado will join a competitive industry. The state of Colorado is a sports-rich state, with the capital city of Denver being home to a major professional sports team in all four sports.

Even though the sports world is currently shut down to the coronavirus pandemic, the May 1 launch date remains intact.
