The state of Illinois launched sports betting just in time for all of the major sports to shut down in the United States. On top of that, all casinos throughout the state were forced to shut their doors, and they have yet to reopen.
The Argosy Casino Alton was one of the casinos that were forced to close, and they had to shut down before ever getting their sportsbook off the ground. The Argosy Casino Alton was just the third casino in Illinois that was given a sports betting license, and the casino is itching to be able to use that license.
Missouri does not have legalized sports betting, which means that residents from St. Louis will have to travel across the state border to place their bets. The Casino Queen in East St. Louis is right across the Mississippi River, but they have yet to receive their sports betting license.
The Argosy Casino Alton was set to become a sports betting leader in southern Illinois, and they likely still will once they are allowed to open their doors. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has implemented some strict laws, though, and casinos will likely remain shut down at least through June.
The city of St. Louis is one of the best sports towns in the United States, and there are some extremely passionate fans. The Argosy Casino Alton is expected to capitalize on these crazed fans, and they are preparing for a major boom once they are allowed to open their doors.

In hopes of attracting some interest, Penn National Gaming featured local sports heroes in the odds. These odds could change over time, but they will look very similar when sports betting returns to the casino.

Former Missouri quarterback Drew Lock — now with the Denver Broncos — is also featured on the site. Argosy has set the over/under for total passing yards at 3,375.5, and for passing touchdowns at 21.5.
The St. Louis Cardinals are listed at +900 to win the National League pennant, and they are listed at +2000 to win the World Series. Even though the Argosy Casino is in Illinois, it is right in the middle of Cardinals country.
