Major League Baseball and Fox Sports are synonymous with one another, but they are about to take their relationship to a whole other level. Both companies just announced that they have reached a multi-year agreement that could and will affect the way Major League Baseball games are shown on the network.
Fox Bet will become an Authorized Gaming Operator of Major League Baseball, and that will take place on the online and mobile betting platform. There were some rumors of a deal like this being in the works, but the two sides made it official earlier this week.
Fox Sports is the home to the World Series, which will begin this week, although this new deal is not expected to have any impact this season, though it will in the future.
Major League Baseball developed its Authorized Gaming Operator program in 2018, and it has been working hard to land some of the biggest names and companies in the industry. Betting in baseball has always been a touchy subject for more than 100 years, but the league finally realized the amount of potential revenue that was available with this new industry.
Fox Bet is now the fourth company to reach an agreement with Major League Baseball as part of this new program. The other three companies are DraftKings, FanDuel, and MGM Resorts International.
These four companies will now share some of their sports betting revenue with the league, and Major League Baseball will provide them with official league data. Other professional sports are trying to work out similar deals, but it does appear that baseball has taken the lead over the other leagues.
More Than Baseball
Fox Bet now has a partnership with three of the biggest and most powerful sports leagues in all of sports. They previously had a partnership with the National Basketball Association, and they recently announced a partnership with the National Football League through their Super 6 contest.
This new deal will give Fox Bet the availability to use official league data across all of their various platforms, and it can be used any way that they want to use it.
The name “Fox Bet” might not be one of the most popular or recognizable names in the sports betting industry, but that figures to change rather quickly. This company was formed when Fox Sports and The Stars Group merged together to create a partnership this summer.
It was the first deal of its kind in the United States, and it gave Fox Sports the opportunity to start to get into the sports betting industry.
Just a few weeks ago, it was announced that The Stars Group and Flutter Entertainment reached a deal that will make them one of the biggest sports betting companies in the world. There is no doubt that Flutter Entertainment was drawn to the idea of having control of Fox Bet, and they have to be thrilled with this new partnership.
Watching the World Series will soon no longer be just about watching the two best teams play, but it will also be about finding the right betting angle to try and win some money.
