New York is set to begin taking bets soon: the state is working through some of the sports betting legislative details, but experts believe there will be mobile betting in New York in 2022.
Several operators were heavily involved in the legislative process through lobbying efforts. DraftKings and FanDuel led the lobbying efforts, and these two books will be live for mobile wagering in the state. There will only be a limited number of licenses, and FanDuel was just given clearance to launch in New York when the time comes.
FanDuel sportsbook launching through Tioga Downs
Tioga Downs partnered with FanDuel Sportsbook to bring the operator to the state. Since the New York market will be very concentrated for operators, it’s an excellent chance for betting conglomerates to generate significant revenue.
There is sports betting at Tioga Downs in a retail format, but FanDuel will be the official mobile book of the casino. Mobile betting is expected to be very popular in the state because of its size.
It’s difficult for bettors to get to casinos to place bets. This has forced people to travel over state borders to bet, resulting in a loss of revenue. Tioga Downs Director of Marketing Jim Weed spoke following the announcement of the partnership. He said;
People do like to come here on the property to visit the FanDuel Sportsbook. I think that will continue to be a thing, but then now it just opens it up, more people will be able to do it from their phones.
Mobile betting is going to make betting possible throughout the state. However, it’s also going to give Tioga Downs a lot of marketing possibilities. Tioga Downs plans to advertise FanDuel’s mobile book at the property and through social media.
They could also match online sports betting deals with retail betting opportunities at the casino. The possibilities are endless, but the first step for FanDuel and Tioga Downs is to go live.
When will New York mobile sports betting launch?
New York has been planning for legal sports betting for an extended period. The scheduled launch date is sometime at the end of January or the beginning of February.
Mobile sports betting will be live by the Super Bowl, according to lawmakers, and this would be huge for the state. If sports betting could go live by Super Bowl Sunday, New York would start the 2022 betting slate with one of the biggest events of the year.
This will be followed by March Madness, which is the most wagered event in the United States. The pressure is on for a swift launch because of these rapidly approaching events.
