DraftKings Partners with Boston Red Sox

DraftKings has entered a partnership with Massachusetts baseball team Boston Red Sox as part of its strategic sports betting and DFS expansion plans in the US. DraftKings is one of the largest gaming operators in the United States and this latest partnership is part of its state-wide expansion plans that focuses on creating partnerships with several domestic professional sports teams.

Sports betting and DFS operators are growing by being showcased throughout stadiums and by endorsing professional sports teams. Due to sports betting not being legal in Massachusetts yet, this latest partnership is for DFS only. However, the legislature is on the verge of passing a sports betting bill that would likely expand this partnership to sports betting as well for the 2022 season.

Details of the partnership

DraftKings is already widely used throughout Boston because the company’s HQ is in the heart of the city. This will grow the platform’s reach because of the popularity of the company. The Red Sox will promote DraftKings as its exclusive DFS partner in multiple ways.

The team will send frequent emails, conduct multiple posts on social, and advertise for DraftKings on its foundation website. DraftKings will also be showcased throughout Fenway Park. There will also be advertisements on the walls, and the company will be the title sponsor for home game 50/50 raffles. Additionally, many Red Sox auctions will be presented by DraftKings.

The primary location for permanent DraftKings billboards will be on the field level at home plate. The company will also headline the billboard between many innings of Boston’s home games.

Ezra Kucharz, Chief Business Officer of DraftKings, spoke following the announcement.

He said, “We are thrilled to team up with a historic franchise like the Red Sox and bring DraftKings closer to this passionate fanbase, which is even more special given our hometown Boston roots. As a Boston-born company, we are well-acquainted with the devotion of Boston sports fans, and we believe the engagement possibilities of this integration are only just beginning.”

DraftKings already has ad space on the Green Monster, so the companies have worked together throughout the years. However, DraftKings is acting aggressively for DFS with sports betting on the horizon.

This deal is on top of the company becoming the first operator to earn a license in Louisiana.

Excitement from the Red Sox

Troup Parkinson, the Red Sox EVP of Partnerships, was quoted following the DFS partnership.

He said, “Since 2015, we have worked closely with DraftKings and are pleased to now have this Boston-based company on board as our official daily fantasy sports partner. With millions participating in the world of fantasy sports, this partnership positions us well to grow our game and engage with our fans on a trusted platform. We look forward to deepening our partnership in the years ahead.”

It’s a great time to be a Boston sports fan, so this deal should work well for both sides for the remainder of the season. The Red Sox are in first place in the American League East, and sports betting is on the verge of legalization in the state.

Last week, MA sports betting passed in the House, and it’s now in the Committee on Senate Ways and Means.
