Mobile sports betting will not be taking place in Maryland any time soon; however, this is a step in the right direction. According to a Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency spokesperson, MGM National Harbor, BetMGM sportsbook would be able to launch on Thursday through control demonstrations.

BetMGM Maryland will be the first sportsbook to open its doors, and four other sportsbook companies received approved licenses. This is considered a very early launch as initially launching the sports betting industry in Maryland wasn’t even considered to be on the radar until January 2022.

It is similar to a soft launch as there will be a limit on the number of wagers. In addition to that, a limited number of guests were invited on Monday and Wednesday. Gov. Larry Hogan former NFL quarterback Joe Theismann will be in attendance for the opening ceremony. They will both place the first legal sports wager at the BetMGM Sportsbook and Lounge inside MGM National Harbor.

The set up in the BetMGM Sportsbook location will feature a 360-degree jumbotron that will be set over the bar. The lounge will have a lot of convenient aspects for its potential customers as it will also feature a 110-foot wraparound screen with stadium seating and the opportunity to order food and drinks through a mobile device.

Gov. Larry Hogan supported the bill that brought sports betting to the state. Many residents were also very supportive of the idea of allowing people to place bets on numerous sports the industry has to offer.

Bettors can use 17 different kiosks or the seven betting windows to place a wager throughout their stay.  BetMGM will not be the only casino launching this week as other sportsbooks will join the market on Friday.
