Arizona Confirms Sports Betting Operators

The Arizona sports betting market is scheduled to launch on September 9, when the Buccaneers host the Cowboys to begin the NFL season. With under two weeks until the launch date, the Arizona Department of Gaming has confirmed the betting operators that will have market access.

There were already partnerships made between license holders and operators. Therefore, the official list was not shocking, but it showed that the state’s market would be loaded with top-tier operators.

Operators who have received confirmation

The Arizona Department of Gaming has been working tirelessly to approve operators before the launch in September. The market will be limited at the NFL kickoff compared to what it will be when all license holders are prepared to launch.

Nevertheless, the operators that have received confirmation are many of the top books in the state. BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, and Barstool Sportsbook will headline the books that are scheduled to launch on September 9.

DraftKings is a partner of TPC Scottsdale, and FanDuel has a relationship with the Phoenix Suns. These were two of the first operators to secure market access through deals with license holders. Barstool partnered with NASCAR’s Phoenix Raceway, and BetMGM has a deal with the Gila River Casino/Arizona Cardinals.

BetMGM is the frontrunner heading into the NFL season because of the company’s relationship with the Cardinals. CEO Adam Greenblatt spoke about the excitement of launching in Arizona through a deal with Gila River and the Cardinals.

“It is an exciting day here at BetMGM to get the official sign-off to launch on day one of sports betting in Arizona. Through our partnerships with Gila River and the Arizona Cardinals, as well as the benefits of being connected to MGM Resorts properties nationwide, we have many exciting things in store for sports fans in Arizona.”

Some licenses were rejected

Registration for online sports betting can begin Saturday in Arizona. People looking to bet on sports in Arizona can register directly from their mobile devices. Additionally, strong marketing efforts can begin from sportsbooks, promoting welcome bonuses to secure customer acquisition.

Sports betting has been established in Arizona very quickly from the time the legislature passed a bill. However, the rules that were created cut some entities out of the market. Arizona sports betting made 20 permits available in the state.

These were split amongst the professional sports teams and tribal gaming nations in the state. Ten professional sports teams applied, but 16 tribal casinos wanted permits as well. This forced the Arizona Department of Gaming to remove some tribal casinos from the lucrative market.

When the rules were created, it was known that this was going to be an issue. There are 22 tribal nations in the state, and it was projected that most would want to be involved in the industry. The Arizona Department of Gaming made its decisions regarding tribal permits with a few things in mind.

They wanted to mix non-gaming tribes, rural groups, and metro casinos for licenses. They also wanted entities that could launch within six months that had financial stability. The Arizona Department of Gaming did not release what tribes were rejected for permits.
