Game details Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Lakers, Fri 10/22 >>
This new era of Lakers basketball got off to a disappointing start Tuesday night, and we’re expecting more disappointment on Friday.
Ten Lakers took the floor during their opening loss to the Warriors. Only two of them, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, were on the team last season. Everybody else is new, which is practically unheard of. Russell Westbrook didn’t look comfortable at all, and that’s not surprising considering how many new pieces they’re mixing in.
It’s going to take this team a while to build chemistry, and things are going to be very awkward for now. They’re starting DeAndre Jordan, which is all you need to know about their bizarre roster configuration.
Now they have to play a Suns team that made the NBA Finals last season. The Lakers managed to lose decisively to Golden State despite the fact that Stephen Curry shot just 5/21 from the field. That’s how you know things were rough.
Phoenix also lost their opener, but it was to a really good Nuggets team that played extremely well. The final score doesn’t look like it, but we actually thought the Suns looked pretty good. Phoenix’s bench gave them a boost, and Landry Shamet is looking like an excellent acquisition.
They should roll over the Lakers here, just like they did in last season’s playoffs.
