Draftkings & FanDuel Top Ranked Betting Apps in Q4 2020

Betting on an app

Online betting keeps growing in the United States according to Q4 download statistics of major betting apps. With COVID-19 restrictions and lack of in-person interaction through 2020, online activity has increased during the pandemic, with many elements of society going completely digital, mobile betting proved to be no different.

As bettors searched for alternative ways to place wagers, mobile apps gave them the opportunity and allowed for online casinos to operate throughout the shutdowns.

Draftkings Leads the Way

According to the Online Gambling Quarterly: Quarter 4 saw a significant rise in activity across top mobile betting apps. Of these, DraftKings tops the app download chart in the US followed by the apps of Fanduel, BetMGM, Barstool, and FOX Bet.

A Casino Comeback?

There once was a time when going to Vegas for a special occasion was commonplace for those looking to have a fun getaway, but since the COVID-19 pandemic, people are trading Sin City’s kiosks and machines for mobile apps.

Online betting increased as a result of COVID-19 restrictions and closed casinos, but the question is, what impact has this trend had on betting behavior in general, and on online betting specifically?

The influence of digital gambling apps can be observed with New Jersey’s record-breaking September that involved the Garden State putting up just under $750 million in online wagers, and its neighbor, New York, viewing this success and now formally discussing legalization with Governor Cuomo mentioning the idea in a recent address.

Considering these states’ economic influence it is evident that this trend has a chance at revolutionizing the industry. Only time will tell, but it is possible that the pandemic may cause many to embrace the online option in a way few had predicted.

Will the return of normalcy in major commercial casinos across the United States halt the digital takeover, or will we see the newfound alternative reign supreme? Time will tell. Until then, we are keeping a keen eye on the various markets that are about to legalize sports betting in 2021.
